Jacqui Malouf: Culinary Bimbo?
Shoba Narayan in the NYTimes identifies that sour taste women often get while watching Food TV. In The Food Network: Where the Kitchen Is Mostly a Men's Club she writes:
Most of the prime-time male chefs on the Food Network have this edgy New York manner that borders on arrogance. This is all the more surprising given that 60 percent of the Food Network's viewers are women. Perhaps women like being talked down to. Then again, perhaps not. Maybe it is just the male chefs being themselves, along with a serious shortage of female chefs to change the model.

Sterling, CO, says: Chex Mix Rocks!
It s official. Chex brand cereal snack mix is the official snack of Sterling, Colorado. According to a General Mills press release:
"I was shocked by how many people called in to say Chex Mix ruled," says Murphy. "People here were so enthusiastic about it, I thought it would be fun to make a big deal out of it and build a little excitement in Sterling."

Murphy contacted Mayor Doug Smith, who offered to participate in all activities including the four-block parade, which featured the high school band and cheerleaders, local ambulance drivers, a float from the hospital, and more. Countless townspeople pitched in to make the day a success, from local bakers who created Chex Mix doughnuts to Main Street businesses that posted kids' Chex Mix drawings in their storefront windows.

Sinkies of the World, Unite!
Each year the International Assoication of People Who Eat Over the Kitchen Sink outs a few the celebrities it suspects are "closet sinkies." In 2000, Wheel of Fortune spokesmodel Vanna White, tanning champ George Hamilton and baseball great Sammy Sosa were all fingered, along with politician Elizabeth Dole, Wendy's founder Dave Thomas and (just for art's sake?) poet Maya Angelou.

Past "honorees" include Martha Stewart, Newt Gingrich, Miss Manners, Mr. Blackwell, Dionne Warwick, Rush Limbaugh, Oprah Winfrey, Al Gore, Kathie Lee Gifford, George Will, Janet Reno, Cosmo Kramer, Jenny Craig, Michael Jordan, Barbara Walters, Tony Blair, Dr. Ruth Westheimer, Kenneth Starr, Judge Judy Sheindlin, Sidney Poitier, Calista Flockhart, Hugh Downs, Dr. Joyce Brothers and Bill Gates.
